Ahu Tongariki is one of the most stunning of all of the displays. Some of these weigh over thirty tons. All of the one thousand Moai on the island were eventually toppled by tribal warfare. The most disrespectful act could do to another tribe was to push over their Moai on it’s face. These fifteen were righted and the foundation rebuilt when the national park system was created on the island. Years later a tsunami hit this portion of the island and knocked them all down. A team from Japan righted the sculptures and built the surrounding park space.
