Crossing the Pecos River I saw the sign for Langtry, TX – home of the Judge Roy Bean museum. Definitely had to go. This was the saloon where Judge Roy Bean handed out justice west of the Pecos River. A movie starring Paul Newman was made glorifying the times and antics of this hard drinking jurist.
On my way out of town I stopped into the only gas station for a hundred miles to fill-up. The station only had regular gas and it was an old-school hand cranked pump. I had just completed two-hundred miles of open desert with forty mile crosswinds. The proprietor had a little restaurant and a few cold drinks. I hung out inside chewing the fat with a very local character. I should have gotten his picture.
