Spent a week this summer in a special STEM (science, technology, engineering & math) program for teachers. We learned about math, acoustics, materials science, physics, tools, and woodworking as we built an electric guitar. The objective is to bring these elements into our classrooms and potentially inspire our students to want to learn more about them. The four instructors were from across the country and brought a wealth of experience in these elements as well as the particulars of guitar making. Our goal is to create learning modules or courses for our students bases upon learning about science as they build a working musical instrument.
