Colombia has been very successful in transforming their country from a narcotics-crazed murder factory to a wonderful, safe, and beautiful destination. Janine and I visited Colombia and spent days in Bogota, Medellin, and Cartagena. All three cities were different each having their own unique culture, food and vibe. We spent Christmas Eve in the Usaquen section of Bogota in the “W” hotel which was the only hotel for several miles. Across the street from the hotel was a small city park, mercado, small shops, and street vendors. On Christmas Eve, all of the tiny streets were filled with locals and the families celebrating the season. We were the only tourists around and spent a wonderful evening walking the streets, eating, and sharing in local community and culture. These are photos of this little park, the people, and the lights.
This is where Colombia is (for the geographically challenged)
Three cities we visited: Bogota, Medellin, and Cartagena.
The section of Bogota called Usaquen was lit up for Xmas and there were no tourists in sight.
Interesting Xmas scene.
