Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is located in the Colorado Desert east of San Diego. I used to be familiar with it having camped there many times during my Boy Scout years too many years ago but it was all new to me this time. I drove over the mountains from Orange County, CA up through Romona and Julian. This is one of the windiest roads I have ever been on. If you wanted to test your driving skill, this is the road for you. I wasn’t into testing my driving at this point, but it was a work-out. Dropping down into the desert from 4,000 feet elevation comes quickly and soon you are on the desert floor filled with ocotillo and sage brush. The desert is peaceful and serene. Temperatures in August were only in low 90s.
