1219-Easter Island – Chile

Easter Island is a wondrous and magical adventure in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. It’s a six hour flight from either Chile or Tahiti and is one of the most isolated inhabited islands in the world. Easter Island has a troubled past that includes deforestation, rats, tribalism, cannibalism, cultism, along with missionaries that almost destroyed their culture. Their story is too long and complicated for this blog to tell. If you want more information, check out these links for a detailed history.

Mysterious Places

Janine and I spent four days on Easter Island exploring the relaxed calm atmosphere, sampling the local foods, and going to sites that many tourists don’t see. It is a wonderful culture of people who look Polynesian but speak Spanish.
