The ride to Julian in San Diego County is a favorite of mine. It takes about six hours and covers about 250 miles of twisty-turny two-lane roads that climb up to the 4,000 foot level. I’ve done it when it’s been hot and I also have one it in the rain at about 45 degrees getting my inclement weather training for my Alaska trip. I stop in the little mountain town of Julian and have breakfast and then ride back down the mountain and across a beautiful tree-filled valley of Native reservations and casinos. Interior San Diego County is gorgeous half desert and half farm and tree land. Even if you don’t have a bike, it’s a wonderful drive in the car.
