Crankshaft Junction is one of those places in Death Valley where two dirt roads intersect each going to places you don’t want to go. Whether it’s Teakettle Junction or Crankshaft Junction, the old miners of Death Valley had a sense of humor in this isolate dry land.

This is an old sulphur mine. When we walked up to it, our throats began to burn and eyes started to water. We didn’t sty very long.
