I generally make it a habit to not eat New Orleans food when out of New Orleans. But too many people said I needed to try this restaurant 40 miles north of Anchorage in Wasilla, AK. I checked it out to find surprisingly good New Orleans fare. I spoke with the cook to find his parents came to Alaska during the 1960s oil pipeline construction period and stayed. His mother taught him to cook and they have had this restaurant since then. I ordered the standard New Orleans test food – gumbo and jambalaya. Both were made from a good dark roux. The gumbo was some of the bet I have had outside New Orleans. Three start for the Bourbon Street Diner. I will return.
