1575-Hyder, AK

Hyder, AK is a tiny town of about 50 – 60 people with a six building main street. Once a gold rush and fishing town, it is now a oddity with a cult bar were you get “hyderized.” Most of the people only live here during the summer season and run the gift shops and bars. It is the only city in the United States without any law enforcement presence. I was told that was not needed since everyone in the town has a .357 handgun handy. I spent the afternoon there and talked with a lot of interesting people – all who had roots in Southern California.
