174-Duct Tape Boat Parade – Fairbanks, AK

The duct tape boat was the most fun at the Fairbanks, AK “Golden Days.” Groups competed on style, artistry, and fun. They had to use duct tape as a major element of the boat construction. Most were quite creative and all had high power squirt guns on board.

New Orleans just won’t leave me alone. The four boat parade princesses came down the river singing Proud Mary at the top of their out-of-tune lungs:

Cleaned a lot of plates in Memphis,
Pumped a lot of ‘tane down in New Orleans,
But I never saw the good side of the city,
Until I hitched a ride on a river boat queen.

and then a chorus or “Me and Bobby McGee:

Busted flat in Baton Rouge, waiting for a train
And I’s feeling nearly as faded as my jeans.
Bobby thumbed a diesel down just before it rained,
It rode us all the way to New Orleans.

The two boys on the second photo built their boat out of a twin bed mattress box spring – and of course duct tape. They called theirs “Wet Dreams.” They would sit up, pull up their sheets, look gown at their bed and yell ooooooooo. It received great laughs.

water8The wedding night boat. Oh, it’s two women – sorry.

water7So this is where all of the old hippies went. I still don’t get it.

water5I think it’s a small port-a-potty he’s sittin’ on.

water4Wet dreaming and I’m thinkin’ of you – song lyrics I think.

water2The real wide load was in the water kicking.
