Most of the buildings in Paris were built several hundred years ago and thus have very narrow stairwells and hallways, and no elevator. If an elevator has been added, it is very small and only fits a couple of people. This becomes a problem when you have a fancy apartment on the top floor of one of these buildings and purchase appliances or large furniture. The French have invented a unique machine to solve the problem. All of the old residential buildings in Paris are six floors high, and all of these apartments have large windows facing the street. The furniture or appliance truck pulls up along with the elevator crane truck and they hoist your purchase up to your floor and through the window. I would love to see this for a piano.
